Its been a great time to do things as a family this week - February half term released us all.
On Tuesday morning I announced I was leading us on a mystery tour. Wry glances all around! I navigated the troops to Gisburn Forest. Only one problem: No map, no water, no mobile signal and no previous knowledge of the area!! Maybe you could say 4 big problems. We set off at 4pm! We only came across 1 group of 3 cyclists who happily told us they thought it would take us under an hour to get back to the carpark. We enjoyed the first hour but as darkness gathered momentum and the path grew more narrow and winding panic began to set in. At last a clearing and a sweet little house with smoke winding from a chimney. We could knock at the door, ask for a glass of water and directions home - but hang on a minute - isn't this a little familiar???? We decided to walk on by at a pace and hope for the best (this little group don't want throwing into a cage and plumping up thank you very much!!! )
20 minutes later and still nothing in sight but trees and a path, when almost all hope of finding our way had disappeared out popped the 3 cyclists as if by magic. They took one look at our panicked faces and led the way - like the cavalary to the car park - some 100 yards away! We'd just walked past it!!!! Now why did'nt we think of packing bread crumbs???
